You have a few ways to deal with missed calls and marketing you can't measure. You can buy a call-tracking tool. You can hire a marketing agency. You can pay an answering service. Or you can keep doing what you're doing and go with your gut.

Each of those is the right choice for some shop. This page says who we are, what FonsHive does, and how it compares with each option, including when one of the others is the better buy.

Who we are

FonsHive was built by Paul, a Minnesota data engineer and marketing consultant. Before there was a product, he set up call tracking, lead-source reporting and missed-call recovery for a home-service contractor by hand.

Doing it by hand taught us three things.

Tracking calls is the easy part. A tracked number takes minutes to set up. Connecting a phone call to a paid invoice three weeks later is where it falls apart. Someone has to match them up, and that someone is usually nobody.

The calls that matter most are the ones nobody answered. A report of answered calls by source can look fine while the missed ones go to the next shop on the list. They never show up anywhere.

Anything that depends on the office typing it in won't last. On a slow day the lead-source field gets filled in. On a busy day it doesn't. The busy days are the ones that count.

We turned that work into one product, so a shop with a few trucks gets the same answers without hiring a consultant.

FonsHive LLC is a Minnesota company. We're small, and we'd rather say so up front. It's one reason every account and connection we set up runs under your own logins, not ours, and the whole system is documented so it keeps running whatever happens on our side. You can write to us at .

What FonsHive does

FonsHive sits underneath your phones, your web forms and your CRM. It does four things.

  1. Every source gets its own tracked number or tagged link. Your Google Business Profile, your ads, your website, each directory you pay for, your trucks. Each number forwards to the phone you already answer. When a call comes in, we already know where it came from.
  2. Missed calls get answered. If nobody picks up after five rings (you can change that), or it's after hours, the optional AI receptionist answers. It says it's an AI assistant in its first sentence, every time. It takes the caller's details. Where your CRM gives us full access, it books the job on the call. Otherwise it takes a message for your office.
  3. Every lead is followed to the paid job. Where your CRM gives us full access, we write the source onto the job for you. When the job is finished and invoiced, the revenue counts toward the source that produced it. Your dashboard shows dollars by source, not clicks.
  4. Your ads learn from real jobs, if you want them to. Turn on ad feedback and we tell the ad platform which of its leads became paid jobs, so it can find more like them.

It runs alongside what you have. Your CRM stays. Your phone system stays. For 30, 60 or 90 days you can run both side by side and compare before you change anything.

Option 1: a call-tracking tool on its own

What it does well. Tracked numbers, a call log, recordings and a report of calls by source. It does that job well, and it costs less than we do.

What it leaves to you. It counts calls, not jobs. Someone still has to match each call to a booked job and an invoice by hand. Nothing answers the call your office missed. And the ad platforms never hear which calls turned into paid work.

When it's the right buy. If all you want is a call log by source, buy the call tracker. You don't need us. If you want to know which calls became money, read how to track which ads bring in jobs first.

Option 2: a full marketing agency

What it does well. Runs your ads, builds your website, works on search. A good agency is worth what it charges.

What it leaves to you. An agency reports on its own work. Most reports stop at clicks, calls or leads, because the agency doesn't see your invoices. Few agencies answer your phone.

How we fit with one. We don't run ads and we don't want your ad accounts. We make the results visible in jobs and dollars, good or bad. A strong agency likes that. If you need someone to run your ads, hire the agency. We work alongside it.

Option 3: an answering service

What it does well. A live person answers when you can't. For some callers and some calls, a human voice is the right answer.

What it leaves to you. Live answering is usually billed by the minute. One comparison of providers, updated July 2026 (opens in a new tab), found per-minute rates of about $1.37 to $2.50. Many services take a message instead of booking the job, so the call still waits for your callback. And the service doesn't know which ad or listing sent the caller.

How we differ. Our AI receptionist is optional. It answers only the calls you send it, such as after-hours and overflow. Where your CRM gives us full access, it books the job on the call. Otherwise it takes a message for your office. Every call it answers is tied to its source. If you already have an answering service you like, keep it: our tracked numbers forward to whatever answers your phone today.

Option 4: doing nothing and guessing

What it costs. Nothing on the invoice.

What it really costs. Here's an illustration with made-up numbers. Say you spend $1,500 a month across three places: an ad campaign, a directory listing and a mailer. Say one of the three brings in almost nothing. Without tracking, you can't tell which one. That's up to $500 a month, $6,000 a year, spent on a guess. And the calls you missed never show up in anyone's memory. If you want to know how many that is for your shop, count the calls you're missing. It takes about 20 minutes.

When it's the right choice. If you have one phone number, no paid marketing, and your phone never goes unanswered, there isn't much to measure. Keep your money.

What we don't do

  • We don't run ads or build websites.
  • We don't replace your CRM, your dispatch or your invoicing.
  • We don't replace your office. The AI receptionist is there for the calls that would have gone to voicemail. Your team keeps answering the rest.
  • We don't promise an uptime percentage. We state a worst-case recovery ceiling for the parts we run ourselves, and we tell you plainly when an outside service has a problem. The details are on our Trust page.
  • We don't claim to connect to every CRM. We connect through the access your CRM offers and the access you choose to give us. Tell us which CRM you use and which plan you're on when you join the waitlist. We tell you plainly what we can connect before you pay anything. See which CRMs we connect to.

Check us without taking our word for it

  • Click through the demo. demo.fonshive.com (opens in a new tab) is the full product with a made-up shop, Dunvarrow Plumbing Co. Every screen works, and there's no login. The names and numbers are invented; the screens behave exactly like the real product.
  • Place one test call. Book a walkthrough and call a tracked number from your own cell while we're on screen together. You'll watch the call land with its source before you hang up.
  • See the starting price. Starting from $499/month. Your final price depends on your call volume and your CRM. What's included is on the pricing page.
  • Change nothing until you're sure. We connect alongside your current setup, so you can compare before you switch anything off.

Your next step

If you're weighing options right now, book a walkthrough and place one test call. Seeing your own call land with its source is the quickest way to tell whether this fits your shop.
